Drone Tech: SCB uses drone tech to assess properties, eyes ₹…

Secunderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), facing financial strain, anticipates a collection of approximately ₹34 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, concluding in June. This surge is attributed to the assessment of over 3,000 previously unassessed properties now incorporated into SCB records, each served with tax demand notices.
Formerly, SCB records reflected annual tax assessments for over 35,000 properties, encompassing both residential and commercial premises. This year, an additional 3,000 properties have been appended to the records.

“We anticipate a rise in SCB’s property tax revenue to ₹34 crore this year due to the augmented property count compared to last year’s figures. In the preceding fiscal year 2023-24, SCB garnered nearly ₹32 crore from property tax and anticipates an additional ₹2 crore,” a senior SCB official told TOI.
Regarding the increase in properties, the official said that the utilisation of drone technology facilitated the assessment of unassessed properties. Moreover, tax records underwent updating, assigning a Property Tax Identification Number (PTIN) to each property, aligning with GHMC practices.
Despite involvement in SCB by-poll and Lok Sabha poll arrangements, the SCB Tax wing diligently dispatched tax demand notices to property owners. Acknowledging the staff’s electoral commitments, a senior SCB official encouraged taxpayers to utilise online payment services.
An impressive response to online payments has been witnessed, with over 40% of property owners having settled their taxes to date. Anticipating further participation, the official said, “With one month remaining until the June 30 deadline for payments, we anticipate at least 80% of taxpayers will opt for online payment.”
Regarding persistent defaulters, the SCB tax wing has initiated penalty-laden notices, actively tracking and urging them to settle pending dues by June 30 to circumvent further penalties, the official affirmed.
